Car (motion) sickness is a common problem faced by many people today; young and old. Motion sickness is caused by a disagreement between the eyes and the inner ear. The inner ear tells the brain that the body is moving but the eyes say that the body is motionless. This conflict leads to the many symptoms of motion sickness. Though there is no cure for this problem, there are some ways to make it less unpleasant.
Steps
1. Prevent Car Sickness. If you know you are likely to get car sick, there are several ways you can prevent it. There are many over-the-counter medicines available with the drug Dramamine. A very effective way to prevent car sickness is the herb ginger. Ginger is available in many forms from cookies to soda (ginger ale). Sitting closer towards the front of the car and keeping your eyes facing forward can also help prevent car sickness. Also, if you have a history of car sickness, Always carry a plastic bag, such as a resealable Ziplock bag. If the route you will be taking involves driving down curvy roads, plan for time to take breaks.
2. Determine the degree to which you are sick. When car sickness first emerges, it is characterized by slight nausea or dizziness. As it gets more and more severe, other symptoms appear such as increased nausea/dizziness, headaches, hotness, watering of the mouth, and eventually, vomiting. Watering of the mouth occurs minutes before vomiting so be prepared to take action if you suddenly have more saliva in your mouth.
3. Respond to your sickness. One of the best overall "cures" for car sickness is fresh air. Simply rolling down a window can chase away most feelings of sickness. Taking ginger or Dramamine pills during sickness will help to a certain extent, but are better taken beforehand. If you are about to vomit, try to do so into a container of some sort. Plastic bags are probably the best choice here, but if you do not have any around, any sort of container will do, including grocery bags, bottles, or whatever else will do. Avoid vomiting in the car at all costs. Vomiting out of the window can be a rather unpleasant experience for both you and the cars behind you and will often leave a huge mess to clean up on the back of the car you are riding in.
4. Clean up if necessary. Vomit contains many stomach acids, which are highly corrosive and can permanently damage many surfaces so clean up should be performed immediately. Use cleaner recommended for the surfaces that need to be cleaned (ex. leather, carpet, etc.). If the vomit is in a bag or something of the sort, find a trash can, don't litter.
Tips
* Try to prevent car sickness at all costs
* Always notify the driver when you begin feeling sick.
* Be prepared!
Warnings
* Avoid closing your mouth when vomiting, it will end up coming through your nose.
* Clean up immediately! Stomach acids can damage your car!
Things You'll Need
* Dramamine pills or Ginger
* Plastic bags
* Cleaner for various car surfaces

How To Enjoy A Trip Alone
Have you ever wanted to go some place alone, but didn't know how to? Here are some tips to help you started.
Steps
1. Determine where you want to go? Are you going to a place where safety might be of concern? Are you going to a place where people don't speak English much? Are you going to a place where culture is quite different - eastern vs western?
* you'll have to take these things into consideration to make the trip more relaxing and with fewer complications
2. Do you want to go with a tourist group or a package deal or do you want to plan everything yourself?
* You could get a tourist guide from CAA/AAA office (free if you are a member) or from a store.
3. Do you require a car, plane, bus or train? Determine how you want to get there. Do you like to fly or not? Do you want to get there in a few hours or would like to take your time to get there?
4. What do you want to see? Are you into museums and galleries? Do you want to see all the tourist sights?
* If you are the type who wants to see as much in a trip as possible, determine what you could see in a day. After the first day there, you'll know if you need to change your schedule or not.
* If you are the type to go with the flow of things, just have an idea of where things are or get the map of the tourist areas (city map) and you could just go from one area to another
5. How much do you want to spend? This factor will determine whether you stay at a hotel or motel, how you travel within the area, where you eat, what you do (trying out the local activities).
Tips
* take tons of pictures of scenery and items that are intriguing, you have all the time
* ask others to take pictures of you, there are always people willing to do that
* keep a journal of places visited or interesting things that happened around (can either write, tape record, video tape etc)
Warnings
* try not to get too wrapped up with the nitty-gritty stuff, you are there to enjoy yourself
* relax, if you don't get to do everything, enjoy what you have done or are doing
Things You'll Need
* money (cash, visa, cheques)
* emergency numbers
* travel insurance
* cell phone or phone card or change to use pay phone (means of contacting someone)
* translation dictionary

How To Plan A Road Trip
If you have ever been on a road trip before, you know it's not easy to plan. Read this and you will know how to plan one easily.
Steps
1. Plan ahead. This is a road trip, and will involve some cost. However, you can make it as cheap or as expensive as you like, depending on accomodations, food, etc. Research your spot you are going to go ahead of time you will be glad you did.
2. Make a list of about 10-15 places you want to visit. It's easier if you make the list so that you stop in places that circle around the whole country or region you will be traveling in. If you want to pick your trip spot in a creative way print out a map of the United states or a map of the world and get a thumb tack. Put the map on the wall, put a blindfold on a family member spin them around 3 times and have them place the tack on the map, where the tack is placed will be your final destination. When you get a destination plan your trip from where you live to where the tack was placed.
3. Decide exactly where you're going to be and also how long you're going to stay there. (i.e. Atlanta, Georgia 2 days)
4. Make sure you and your travel companions can all get time off.
5. Go online to different travel agent websites (such as http://www.expedia.com) and book different hotels at the best price you can get them. Alternatively, you can stop at motels or hostels along the way.
6. Once the day comes bring all of your bags and have a very fun and exciting vacation.
Tips
* Get all of your stuff at the lowest price.
* Look into purchasing a roadside assistance plan.
* Look for a cheap hotel as a backup that you will be able to stay at, book a room, on your way to the destination look on a website for a nicer hotel that has an extra room.
Warnings
* Be careful some hotels advertise showing that they are five star when they are actually shabby and awful, be careful to check the hotels out at a few websites before booking a room.
* Be sure to obey traffic laws.
Things You'll Need
* Tickets
* Passports (if needed)
* Bags
* Gas Coupons (if in Europe)
* money

Preparing For A Road Trip
How do I know if my car is ready for a road trip?
What kind of maintenance does my car need before a road trip?
Basically, the things you want to do is make sure that your tires are inflated to the proper air pressure, because that will help you get the best gas mileage. You want to make sure that you have good brake fluid. You want to make sure that you have good air conditioning fluid. Make sure that all of your levels are topped off, so that you don't have to worry about them while you're driving on the road. Also, you want to make that your brake pads are operating properly. It's also a good idea to start off your trip with a nice, fresh oil change.
Should I rent a car for a road trip?
What items should I bring on a road trip?
You want to make sure that you have the basics to prepare yourself in case of a breakdown or in case of an emergency. You want to make sure that you have road flares. You want to make sure that you have a flashlight in case you break down during the evening. You want to make sure that you have a good spare tire. Sometimes you can even get portable air compressors, and that can be helpful in case your tires are running low. You can then fill them out right there on the side of the road. You want to make sure that you have good safety equipment, and you want to make sure that you are going to be taken care of in case you get stranded along side the road. It's nice to have a few snacks with you inside your car. You can have food that you can eat while you are driving along the way so that you're not making too many stops. It's also nice to have a bottle of water in the car, so that way you can stay hydrated while you are driving.
What is a 'CB radio'?
Where can I get maps for my road trip?
There's a variety of sources for you to get maps, and one of the best sources for maps is actually to go through AAA. They can do a thing called TripTik where they can actually map out your route for you and tell you exactly where you need to go and how to get there. You can also go to book stores and get large maps as well. Another source for getting maps is also online, and those are good for getting basic directions and looking at basic distances to determine where you're going.
